Joss Whedon, the creator of Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Firefly, and director of The Avengers, has successfully pitched a new show idea to HBO. The Nevers is described as a sci-fi drama about a group of Victorian women who have unusual abilities, a bunch of enemies and a mission to change the world. Whedon is excited about the greenlit from HBO saying about the series, “this is the most ambitious narrative I’ve created and I can’t think of a better home for it than HBO.” Given HBO’s history of successful sci-fi dramas (True Blood and Westworld, anyone?), it is a good bet that they treat The Nevers right and fans will be thrilled with the results. The show was in a bidding war with Netflix but HBO prevailed, and HBO is equally thrilled that Whedon’s new world will be joining the HBO family. No word yet on when we might expect it to begin but we will keep you posted!
